In a bold black and red novelty chinoiserie-esque print of buildings, this asymmetrically styled number is a real corker.
Itīs thoroughly 1940s with padded shoulders, side metal zipper and tiny central zipper to neck, and an inverted black pleated section leading down from the left hip, while the right hip features a stylised pocket. The neckline is super, with pleated pull through swag detail to the left side.
This has (quite understandably) been a well loved dress and as such has seen some slight repair, but it is immediately wearable as it comes and in a very wearable modern size!
Fabric: a drapey rayon, black rayon crepe trim to neckline (no labels)
Label: none found but Iīm pretty sure it was professionally constructed, it has fabulous details.
Measurements of garment (so you need to be slightly smaller):
bust 44", waist 36", hips 46" but does have extra room with inverted side panel.
overall length from shoulder to hem is approximately 45".
Condition: Good. Immediately wearable, clean and damage free - but with noted flaws as listed below to be aware of.
Slight fade to black rayon (as ever) but nothing glaring.
Section of handstitched re-instated waist seam visible on closer inspection
Side metal zipper has been replaced with another original metal zipper to match the rear neck
Missing original belt (but any black one would do.)
I donīt think the owner will be disappointed though, this one has plenty of dancing left in it!
